Notes from the Board

Thank you to everyone who attended our Community Meeting on July 11th!  We had 2 speakers at our meeting; Francois Bergan our Ward VI representative and Kimberly Armitage VP of the Aurora Family YMCA.

Francois Bergan our Ward VI representative presented in regards to the Aurora Recreation Center being built just south of Infinity Middle School.  They have 33 million in tax revenue to build the facility.

She explained that they are currently in the public input phase of the project and she welcomes our community to attend their public input meetings to voice your opinion on what you would like to be at the facility.

They are looking to create a 55,000 sq ft facility and already have an architect on board.  She also explained the construction to connect Harvest Road to Powhatan is underway and they hope to have it completed this fall.

Kimberly Armitage presented in regards to the YMCA recreation facility at Wheatlands.  She presented the layout of the facility and the amenities they will be offering.

A few of the features include a 6 lane lap pool, family locker rooms, spinning classes, and yoga.  She explained that they are hoping to have construction trailers onsite this fall.

We are still waiting on the appraisal from the bank and final approval from the authority board.  The deal is structured so each household in Wheatlands would receive a family membership to the YMCA recreation center.  This would include all residential homes and townhomes in Wheatlands but does not include the apartments.   The membership would be included as part of your existing monthly dues.

Thank you again for all the community support of both projects.  We look forward to having both facilities to enjoy in the future.

Park Update
The park is really starting to come together and exciting new features are being installed in July. Once ID Sculpture comes on site you will see the park really start to transform. Feel free to swing by and take a look next time you are over there.

A few updates since June:

* Goodland completed all the utility work for the restroom.
* They have begun excavation for the remedial fill for the shelter.
* They put up forms for the playground curb walls.
o The final portion of the wall will be poured once the boulders are placed on top of their pedestals.
* Materials have arrived on-site for the drainage system in the playground area
* While ID Sculpture is installing the climbing wall features, Goodland plans on building the Park ID sign, completing the curb ramps and constructing the shelter.
* Concrete flatwork will begin the 1st week of August after ID sculpture has completed the climbing wall.
* The shelter permit was issued.

Thank you to our community for all your support of the community park project!

Covenant Updates and Reminders from AMI
Please remember to take care of your house and property. Areas of concern include making sure your lawns are mowed and edged, shrubs are pruned, rock beds and lawns are free of weeds, and front and back yards are being watered.

Landscaping to-do’s:

Eager to secure the health and beauty of your grounds? Ziehler recommends these steps:
  • Clean up any yard debris and dead plant matter. (spring)
  • apply herbicide crabgrass pre-emergent to your landscape beds to prevent weeds (spring)
  • Apply fertilizer and weed control to your lawn; (spring and summer)
  • Inspect for insects; apply proper insect control measures. (spring and summer)
  • Sharpen you mower blade; mow your grass at least weekly (removing no more than one third of the grass blade. (spring and summer )
  • Water your lawn and flora water deeply, infrequently, in the morning and before you see signs of drought stress. (spring and summer

  • Tips on responding to violations:
  1. Be kind- its not personal. The management company issues violations based on District’s policies and as directed by the Board of Directors.
  2. Carefully review the complaint and either comply by the date provided or ask for a hearing in writing (if one is not scheduled automatically.)No fine can be issued until the owner has an opportunity for a hearing. However if you don’t comply and don’t attend a hearing the violation process will continue.
  3. Know and understand the covenant enforcement policy. The policy dictates how and when notices are sent and time allowed for compliance.
  4. Don’t assume that you are being singled out. For example if you know several people in neighborhood are also in violation they have most likely been issued a letter.
  5. Be patient and respond accordingly. Often the number of responses via phone can be fairly high and difficult to catch every call.Allow up to 48 hours for a response. Putting the response or question in writing is always great to create a paper trail.

Do you have time to help our community and get involved?  We are looking to fill two vacancies on the Wheatlands Metropolitan Board.  The duty of the board is to maintain the community appearance, assist with community projects, and represent your neighbors when making board decisions.  The position requires you to be available during the evenings to attend monthly board meetings and special meetings as they occur.   You would also be expected to volunteer additional time as needed for board projects and community operations.  If you or someone you know is interested please submit a letter of interest to [email protected] by August 5, 2019.

If you do not want to be on the board but want to get involved there are many opportunities for residents to join a committee. The board is looking for help on our Covenant Committee and our Social Committee.  If you are passionate about covenants and making our community beautiful we encourage you to volunteer for our Covenant Committee.  The committee will partner with AMI in regards to covenant enforcement and help with the appeals process.  In addition we are looking for volunteers on our Social Committee.  Social committee members partner with the YMCA and volunteer their time to help plan, communicate and attend the social events for the neighborhood.  We appreciate your consideration of the open positions and can’t wait to hear from you!
