Happy Halloween

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

Walk Safely

  1. Cross the street at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks. Look left, right and left again when crossing and keep looking as you cross.
  2. Put electronic devices down and keep heads up and walk, don’t run, across the street.
  3. Make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them.
  4. Always walk on sidewalks or paths.
  5. Watch for cars that are turning or backing up. Teach children to never dart out into the street or cross between parked cars.

Drive Extra Safe on Halloween

  1. Slow down and be especially alert in the neighborhood.
  2. Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians and on curbs.
  3. Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.
  4. Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings.
  5. Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances.
  6. Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so be especially alert for kids during those hours.

Keep Costumes Both Creative and Safe

  1. Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers and, if possible, choose light colors.
  2. Have kids carry glow sticks or flashlights to help them see and be seen by drivers.
  3. When selecting a costume, make sure it is the right size to prevent trips and falls.

Freeze Warning

The weekly forecast is calling for lows near and below freezing. This is a reminder to take care of your sprinkler/irrigation system to avoid pipes from freezing and bursting.

Shut off the water supply to the lawn irrigation systems before the thermometer hits freezing temperature. The main shut-off valve for your sprinkler system needs to be protected. Make sure it is wrapped with insulation, a blanket or somehow sheltered from subzero temps.

YMCA Recreation Center

YMCA Recreation Center Update August 2018

The Wheatlands Metropolitan District formed a separate authority (in which the Wheatlands board members are the majority) to finance the project. That authority is working hard to make the recreation center a reality. The Wheatlands residents will all receive access to the Recreation center for free as part of your existing $65 monthly fee. The authority is completing the due diligence process with the bank. As part of that process they have hired an architect and general contractor. If all goes as planned we would be looking to break ground in Spring next year and open in 2020.
